Jack’s Insights

Blueberry Hill is a poster child for ‘Low Impact Development (LID)’, although it was built long before that term was coined. Environmental & energy-conscious features include homes clustered around a central greenway, geothermal heating and cooling, community recycling and composting program, and participation in community supported agriculture (CSA).

BUT… what makes Blueberry Hill a truly wonderful place to live is much more than the bricks and mortar. The real VALUE of this neighborhood is our connectedness… it is the enduring spirit of community that sustains us and will continue to sustain us for generations to come.”

Blueberry Hill Cohousing

a self developed community

Cohousing Collaborative’s Jack Wilbern is a founding resident, architect, and co-developer of this closely knit neighborhood of 19 homes just a few miles west of bustling Tysons Corner, VA.  This idyllic community is well-known for “saving the farm” and walking the talk of sustainable living.

The community enjoys a spacious common house where neighbors meet voluntarily as often as 2-3 times a week for meals. Homes are oriented to a generous pedestrian “greenway” where children and neighbors gather for planned or totally spontaneous events.

Blueberry Hill is a member of Mid Atlantic Cohousing, a regional non-profit organization.
